Jason Wu

In honor of the inauguration yesterday, I thought it would be fitting to feature Jason Wu, the designer of Michelle Obama's gown which she wore to the inaugural ball. Jason Wu was also one of the designers featured at the ICA's fashion event which I wrote about a little while back.




















The silhouettes are fantastic, and I love the color palette. The colors are wonderfully rich and vibrant, and very unique. Wearing one of Wu's gowns would definitely make someone stand out. Good choice Michelle!

Day off

Today I didn't have school because there was a staff day. I went to the square with my friend Alan and got these pair of jeans on sale at Urban Outfitters. The top part can be zipped off to turn the jeans into a normal pair of skinny jeans. It's like getting two pairs of jeans in one. After Urban outfitters we went to lunch at Wagamama's, one of my favorite restaurants. The food is so good, and their shirts are adorable.

Isabel Marant Spring 2009 RTW

I found Isabel Marant's Spring line to have a very vintage feel to it, which I liked. Overall, the collection is a bit plain and muted, but I feel as if there were some key pieces that could be taken and dressed up more. For example, I love the lace used in the line, and the floral jackets. Also, the mini skirts were adorable.

Jan Taminiau

Jan Taminiau is a designer from Amsterdam who is set up in the red light district. If any of you watched cycle 11 of America's Next Top Model, then you might recognize this designer. I find Jan's work to be very romantic and dreamy. His runway show in July 2008 has a lot of neutral colored, floaty garments. I personally am not usually attracted to neutral shades, but I think these garments are beautiful.



This video is from his 2007 collection. This collection has more color, but it also has that dreamy feel to it. I am in love with the dresses that can be worn as a coat as well.

Fabric

This past Saturday I went fabric shopping, and I have displayed what I got by draping them over dear Molly the mannequin. I have learned that you should always go to the fabric store already knowing what you want, or else you will be completely overwhelmed by the hundreds of bolts of fabrics around you. I bought the fabric above to make a little black dress. The design is still not definite.
This fabric feels and looks like suede, but it's not. I wanted to replicate these which I saw on Nasty Gal. Unfortunately, I found this in the remnants pile and there was only a little over a yard left. If I were to make the pants there would be no room for me to make any mistakes. We'll see what happens with this fabric.
A friend of mine requested that I make her a skirt for her birthday. Her birthday isn't for a few more months but since I was buying fabric I picked some up for her skirt. I fell in love with this print as soon as I walked by it. I was looking for something cutesy but not tacky and I think I got it. Also, the person who rang up my fabric asked me if I could custom make her a skirt! Hopefully that will work out.

Beautiful

I am in love with this shirt. I found it when I went thrifting with Azriel. The thrift store we went to is HUGE and I hardly knew where to begin. Unfortunately, you have to look through a lot of the clothes before you find something good. The shirt above was DEFINITELY a good find, and so cheap! I pride myself on being an excellent bargain shopper. Being my age, the only money I have is what I can make from babysitting, and I'm trying to save that up. Thrift stores are a great place to find additions to my wardrobe, and hand-me-downs from my mom, (and sometimes dad) have helped as well. Sometimes all it takes is a little creativity and some adjustments to make something old into something new and wearable.

New Years and Latest Projects

I know it's a bit late, but I just wanted to say happy 2009! I spent my vacation catching up on sleep and seeing friends and neglected my blog for a while. Well, now I'm back in school and back to writing! New years was really great. I went downtown with a group of friends and we just walked around and talked to strangers. Creepy? A bit. But hey, it was new years. Above is two of the five layers I wore when we went out. Over this I wore a black cardigan, a fleece, and a winter coat. Unfortunately that meant that no one saw anything except a large blue coat, but at least I kept warm.

A skirt I made a few weeks back. I know it looks long, and I wish I could have made it shorter, but I needed a skirt that fit my school dress code.
